On February 23, 2022, the IRS released new regulations concerning RMD and beneficiary distributions from IRAs and employer-sponsored retirement plans. Since the release, many retirement providers have been alarmed to find distribution requirements they did not anticipate. While the newly-issued regulations are not yet finalized, the regulations have a proposed effective date of January 1, 2022, and the IRS has indicated the regulations may be relied upon—in their current form—to demonstrate good faith compliance with changes brought about by the SECURE Act of 2019.
